Fraud Alert: Mystery Shopper

It has come to our attention that a party not affiliated with The Merchants Company has mailed correspondence informing U.S. consumers that they have been selected for a paid position as a “Mystery Shopper”.
The correspondence instructs consumers to pose as a potential customer to retailers and banks in exchange for financial considerations. It is accompanied by a fraudulent check made to look as if it was from The Merchants Company, and the recipient is instructed to call a number to activate the check.
The Merchants Company confirms that we are not engaging in such activities. Any consumers receiving the correspondence described above should regard it as a fraud and potential scam.
